Architeuthis is the genus name given to the deep-sea dwelling giant squid.
Scientists and researchers do not agree on the total number of species represented in this genus, however, there may be as few as one, Architeuthis Dux, or a href=”/dux” title=”Architeuthis Dux”>Atlantic Giant Squid, as most researchers do agree on, or as many as eight at the present time (January 2010).
Giant squid can grow to an enormous size with current estimates at up to 13 meters or 43 feet long (longer than the average school bus)! That’s pretty big.
